Barbara Massing has been Deutsche Welle’s Administrative Director since 1 October 2014. Massing came to Deutsche Welle in 2006 as an Assistant to the Director of Strategy, Marketing and Distribution.
In 2008, she established and led the Strategic Planning Department. Additionally, she represented DW as a member of the international advisory group “Science and Society” for the EU Commission.
Massing was born in Andernach, Germany in 1971. She studied law and history with a focus on administration and international media law in Berlin and Hamburg. She has worked as a producer and researcher for ARD documentaries and was also an attorney at ARD for media and Internet law. In 2004, before coming to Deutsche Welle, Massing was an assistant to the managing board at ARTE Germany in Baden-Baden.
