More than five years after it began, a trial against members of a neo-Nazi group must restart from the very beginning. The case was provisionally closed because it ran so long, the presiding judge went into retirement.
Beate Zschäpe and two other men were allegedly members of the neo-Nazi NSU cell which murdered minorities and carried out a string of bombings. The case has shocked Germany since it began in 2013.
The seven neo-Nazis arrested in the German state of Saxony are facing more serious charges than previously expected. After some bad press, German prosecutors are now much quicker to reach for terrorism charges.
The surviving member of the neo-Nazi terrorist group the National Socialist Underground (NSU), Beate Zschäpe, has been found guilty of 10 counts of murder. The trial was one of the biggest in postwar German history.
