Whales solve helicopter air-flow mystery

Sp: King, Neil/A: Schmidt, FabianJuly 5, 2012

Growing up to 15 meters and weighing close to 30 tons, humpback whales with their enormous bodies are able to glide through the depths of the ocean. Streamlined over the course of evolution to pass through the water with ease, it would seem their pectoral fins with unusual bumps are somewhat out of place. It's these fins that have a group of researchers at a German Aerospace Centre very excited.
