The UN is calling for top Myanmar generals to face trial as security forces are accused of killings, gang rape and arson during a crackdown that led people to flee for neighboring Bangladesh.
A proposal by Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the UN for resolving the Rohingya refugee crisis has been hailed by the Muslim community. Earlier appeals by her have seemingly gone unheard, however.
In 2017, a Rohingya militant group attacked several police posts in Myanmar. As the army responded with brutal force, thousands of Rohingya fled to Bangladesh. Today, the militants threaten those who dare to defy them.
Bangladeshi troops have allegedly raped an underage Rohingya girl at the Cox's Bazar refugee camp. The authorities deny rape allegations, but the girl's family told DW they were being threatened by security forces.
The United Nations Security Council has ended 15 years of peacekeeping and justice operations in Haiti. Officials have voiced regret that Haiti's economic, political and social woes continue.
