Special: Soccer on Screen
May 2, 2013Football and film make a great combination. Both deal with heroes and villains and look great when they're blown up big on the silver screen. Berlin's football film festival "11 Millimeter" just celebrated its tenth anniversary, and Kick off! was, of course, on hand.
In mid-March, the 11mm Festival was back for its tenth edition with live appearances by Klaus Fischer, Jari Litmanen and Olaf Thon, and movies about Diego Maradona, Eric Cantona and Thierry Henry. The event, which ran this spring, featured a jury selecting the best football film of all time. There were also prizes for the best documentary, feature and short films. Two areas of focus were the fiftieth anniversary of the Bundesliga and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. "Kick off!" also had a short feature in the competition. "Never Again Division Two!" tells the story of the dramatic 2012 end-of-season playoff between Hertha Berlin and Fortuna Düsseldorf. This special edition of Kick off! Countdown brings you all the highlights and prize winner from this year's 11mm Football Film Festival.
