German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and French President Jacques Chirac will meet on June 10 in southern France, the German government's official spokesman said on Monday. It will be their first meeting since French voters rejected the EU constitution in a referendum and the meeting in Sete will take place a week before an EU summit in Brussels set for June 16-17. Schröder telephoned Chirac late on Sunday after the extent of the French opposition to the treaty became clear. Germany last week became the ninth country to ratify the constitution, although it was done by the two houses of parliament, not by a referendum.
