An international trade fair underway in North Korea appears to be the largest of its kind on record. Chinese companies are especially well represented but firms from Poland, Syria, Russia and Indonesia are also showcasing their wares.
South Korea has said it will make its largest food donation to the North since 2008, as an estimated 40% of North Koreans are undernourished. Much of the aid is aimed at helping vulnerable children and mothers.
Xi Jinping is set to become the first Chinese president to travel to North Korea in 14 years. The visit comes as denuclearization talks between North Korea and the United States appear to be at a standstill.
A South Korea paper citing an anonymous source said that Kim Hyok Chol was accused of being a US spy and killed. Several officials who also worked on the meeting with the US have been killed or jailed, the paper said.
North Korea has reacted sternly to last week's announcement that one of its cargo ships had been seized by the US. The seizure was described as "robbery" and against the spirit of recent top-level summits.
