Popping or cracking joints

Martin BrandtDecember 22, 2011

When we pull a joint apart or stretch it, the adhesion within the joint is briefly broken. That causes a reduction in pressure, which is rapidly compensated for when the synovial fluid flows back. And that can cause a popping sound. It's a myth that cracking your knuckles can result in osteoarthritis, but orthopaedists recommend not overdoing it.
