Through material- and energy-saving building methods used on the Velodrome or allowing for buildings like the award-winning Olympic Aquatic Center, designed by Zaha Hadid, to be partially built back. A whole new district of Rio de Janeiro is scheduled to be completed by 2016 with the focus on infrastructure rather than building sports palaces. The world-famous Maracanã Stadium is being renovated, while the world’s first environmentally certified soccer arena is under construction in Manaus.
