Parliamentary Elections: Guido Westerwelle and its FDP are the big winners

The Free Democrats will probably be celebrating into the wee hours of the morning - this is their best federal election results ever. Traditionally the conservatives' chosen allies in government, they've been out in the wilderness for eleven years, always in the running yet never quite making it onto the podium. Their long-standing leader, Guido Westerwelle, took a calculated risk before the election when he categorically ruled out a coalition with the Greens and the SPD, leaving himself with a single option: the conservatives. And his pledge to cut taxes in this time of financial crisis obviously hit a note with voters. Here's a closer look at Guido Westerwelle - and his party.
