Andres Veiel is one of Germany's best known documentary makers. After studying psychology he learned movie and stage directing. Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski was one of his tutors. Veiel’s directing breakthrough came in 2001 with his prize winning film Black Box BRD. The 51 year old addresses violence and its roots in his work again and again. At the moment he is working on his first feature film which deals with the roots of the Bader Meinhof group's terrorism. Veiel is a member of the European and German film academies. He lives with his family in Berlin.
