Alexander von Humboldt once studied at the Mining Academy in Freiberg. Today researchers there are looking for new ways of obtaining mineral resources, such as high-tech drones and environmentally friendly methods of separating minerals from rock.
Silver, tin and uranium were mined here for over 800 years. Now the German-Czech region of Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List. We look at Freiberg's long journey to World Heritage.
