KINO – now on Filmportal!

Now film fans can watch KINO in streaming video on the central portal for German cinema: filmportal.de. There you will also find a database and current background stories on German films.

The Filmportal "offers an broad, easily-accessible, and free-of-charge collection of data, images and encyclopedic information on German film from its beginnings to the present day," says Claudia Dillmann, director of the German Film Institute, DIF.

filmportal.de's continually updated database currently features more than 60,000 German films – 6,000 of them presented with detailed synopses and photographs – and 120,000 film professionals. At the moment, filmportal.de offers more then 15,000 photos and illustrations, 6,000 synopses, 1,900 biographies as well as more than 3,000 other materials, including reviews, interviews, posters, production notes and letters – some of which are exclusive to filmportal.de. Thematic articles on filmportal.de provide extensive information about important eras and current trends in German cinema. And in a pilot project with T-Online, filmportal.de also provides access to the 100 most important films, which can be downloaded as video-on-demand.

Since its launch in February 2005, filmportal.de has counted some 5.2 million visitors, 30 percent of which have been located outside of Germany. As many as 15,000 people visit the site each day, accessing 45,000 pages. The portal is based on a scalable, individually expandable data model considered trend-setting for the logging of films on a national and international level. Its professional search offers free and comprehensive research possibilities regarding German-language film.
