German Health Minister Ulla Schmidt has been defending her use of an armoured chauffeur-driven government limosine while on holiday in Alicante, Spain. Her Social Democratic Party says she has assured SPD leaders that she had only used the vehicle in compliance with German law. But with the recession deepening and elections around the corner, the Minister can expect yet more tough questions when she returns to Berlin tomorrow.
