Carnival season is getting under way in Germany. In Cologne, even immigrants love to join the fun.
Huge crowds have turned out to celebrate Britain's LGBT community at London's annual pride parade. This year, a contingent of Royal Marines was part of the festivities for the first time.
This hour, over 300 musicians from five countries give a performance of Benjamin Britten's "War Requiem" in the Cologne Philharmonie. The motto of this massive musical project: "May War Rest in Peace!"
The traditional Carnival celebrations in Cologne took a tragic turn when a policeman was mowed down by a tram. Police suspect it was a case of murder, although the judge is not convinced.
No other city in Germany has as many songs about "Heimat," expressing the feeling of home, as Cologne. Groups of people gather to sing together about their local patriotism, and not only during Carnival.
