400 years ago, a dark chapter of history began: the era of slavery in North America. From Ghana, many captives were brought to the New World and sold there. Ghana has proclaimed 2019 as the year of return.
476 AD -1375 AD: Beyond the Desert - The history of slavery did not begin in the cotton fields. It has been going on since the dawn of humanity.
1620 - 1789 - From Sugar to Rebellion: In the 17th century, almost seven million slaves toiled in sugar production. The French, English, Dutch and Spanish empires all sought profits from "white gold.”
In the year that marks 400 years since the first enslaved Africans were forcibly taken abroad, Ghana – one of their key departure hubs on the continent – is calling their descendants home to visit, live, and invest.
Members of the Hells Angels motorcycle club were indicted for attempting to kill four people and injuring others with knives, axes and batons at a restaurant in Lisbon. The gang was banned by the Netherlands in May.
