Germany’s Creative Spirits - Xavier Naidoo
April 9, 2014
Few singers take such a passionate and playful approach to the German language as Xavier Naidoo. All of his solo albums have topped the charts and his song ‘Dieser Weg’ became an unofficial anthem for the German team during the Soccer World Cup of 2006. Naidoo's parents are originally from South Africa: his father is of Indian- German descent and his mother has Arab roots. Xavier Naidoo is deeply attached to his home-town Mannheim, which he sings about with touching affection.
Our camera follows Naidoo onstage at a big open air concert where ten thousand fans sing along and shows him spontaneously kicking over the traces and breaking away from his packed itinerary. Our report also looks at how he gets his lyrical inspiration from tiny tonal ideas, and visits him in his Mannheim studio to watch him working on a song with his closest friendMichael Herberger. And we also find out about his ambitious plan to open a media park in his hometown and make Mannheim a “City of Pop Music.”
