Faith Matters - The Female Peacemakers - 50 Years of "Religions for Peace"

Religions for Peace (RfP) is an association of people representing members of diverse religions in more than 100 countries. This independent organization is committed to mediating in religious conflicts worldwide. RfP will be fifty-years-old in 2020. The endeavors of these women is only now receiving international recognition.

Once every five years the organization "Religions for Peace" holds a plenary session. The most recent one took place last summer in Germany. More than 900 religion delegates from all over the world met at Lindau on Lake Constance. Previously, a DW camera team documented four of the women’s work in Jordan. Feminism in the Middle East - not promoted by young girls but by mature women, members of the Middle East section of Religions for Peace: Jewish, Christian, Muslim. One is a former ambassador, another a university professor, a third is a former political prisoner from Iraq. These campaigners are united in their struggle for women’s rights, including in religious communities. They developed a project in Jordan, a traditionally patriarchal society, and brought their plan to the RfP world congress in Germany. DW reports on the reception they received in Lindau.
