Europa-Park: record number in its anniversary year

July 9, 2015

The largest leisure park in Germany is celebrating both its 40th birthday and a new record this weekend: since start of the season at the end of March, two million people have already visited Rust in Baden-Württemberg.

This was the best result since the founding of the park in 1975, owner Roland Mack said on Thursday. It means Rust has already welcomed more visitors now than any other theme park in Germany in the whole year. The Europa-Park offers over 100 attractions spread over 95 hectares. Among the novelties in this anniversary year: the "Beautiful Europe" projection in the park’s 360-degree digital cinema, steampunk-style cars for the parade and an ice show where the legendary Gorgon Medusa turns ancient Greek gods into stone.

Franz Mack and his son Roland opened the Europa-Park on 12 July 1975. Inspired by US theme parks, the family-owned company has expanded the venue into one of the largest in the world. It not only features many rides, but also a total of 23 hours a day of programming. Last year, the Europa-Park welcomed its 100 millionth visitor.
