United Internet's mobile unit 1&1 Drillisch will apply to take part in Germany's auction of 5G licenses. The firms' billionaire CEO said he wants to shake up the existing oligopoly, but market reaction was negative.
Germany desperately needs to modernize its internet. Four companies are bidding to implement a so-called 5G network. An auction is to be held in the first quarter of this year.
