Bastian Fassin

The cat in the company's logo is the Katjes trademark. Bastian Fassin is the third generation to run the confectioners since his father retired as head of the firm at 65.

Katjes is Germany's third largest candy producer – and it's growing – which is sweet news to 34 year old Bastian. And what is his favorite object?

"My father gave me this coin when I joined the company. We can see that it has something to do with the Katjes firm because it has a Katjes cat on it – the old Katjes cat. But the hidden thing on the back of it is that it says 1 Million DM. September 65. That was a coin my father gave to the entire staff when we had a turnover of one million marks for the first time in September 65. The handover didn't take place with a big orchestral accompaniment or anything - I was out in the country with my father. He's more of a quiet giver than a loud giver. And I think he gave it to me rather casually - although he knew that I don't feel that way about it. For me it symbolizes above all that you have to set yourself new goals. Just like we ultimately got past the one million mark – in the same way we have to pass the 200 million or the 250 million mark and this is the symbol of that – to always set new targets."
