After two days of mayhem, which claimed at least 50 lives, mutineers from the Bangladesh Rifles finally surrendered on Thursday. A government spokesman told reporters the crisis was over and that all the hostages held at the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Dhaka, had been released. The paramilitary guards are believed to have protested over poor payment and work conditions. Their surrender came just hours after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina warned them to give up immediately or face "tough action".
