A Portrait of Brain Researcher Katrin Amunts

April 14, 2014

How exactly does the human brain work? Why do some areas seem to control the body's movements, while others take charge of speech? These are the types of questions dealt with by Katrin Amunts, a neuroscientist at the Jülich Research Center.

She and her fellow researchers are currently at work on a project unlike any other before: creating a 3-dimensional atlas of the brain that’s being called ‘Big Brain’. The work involves analyzing thousands of tissue samples and then reconstructing them in a computer. Scientists and doctors will be able to consult the brain atlas for research work or medical treatment.
