Amal Ramsis is an Egyptian filmmaker. In 1993 she graduated from the Faculty of Law in Cairo, after which she worked as a lawyer for three years. In 1992, she participated in founding the Women's Studies Centre, “Maan” (Together), in Egypt. In 2002, she obtained a grant from the Spanish foreign ministry to study film directing at the “Septima Ars” Cinema School in Madrid, completing her studies in 2005. Since 2008 she has organized the Caravan of Arab and Ibero-American Women Films. She also heads the program’s women’s workshop series known as “Mujeres en Correspondencia.” In 2009 the Arab European Foundation of Granada awarded her its annual grant for arts and literature. Ramsis has directed a number of short films and documentaries, including “Silence,” “Plateau,” “Beirut is on the Seaside,” “Only Dreams,” “Life” and “Forbidden.”
