Shafiah Muhibat is a researcher at the department of international relations at the,
Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Jakarta. She has done and assisted
extensive research on politics and regional security in Southeast Asia and the
Asia Pacific region and has special interest in issues of regional security cooperation
and maritime security.
Since October 2009, Muhibat has been a PhD candidate at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy at the University of Hamburg, with a full scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). She is working on a dissertation
with the working title “Evolving Approaches to Regional Security Cooperation:
A conceptual analysis of cooperative security with illustrations of practices in
East Asia.” Prior to her doctoral study leave, Muhibat was on the editorial board of The
Indonesian Quarterly and a lecturer at a private university in Jakarta.
Muhibat participated in the third course of the programme “Managing Global Governance”.
