Media Development Discussions in Brussels

Using the format "Seven Minutes for the Media", DW Akademie explored the media's role in development at this year's European Development Days which took place from 16-17 October 2012 in Brussels.

At the European Development Days, DW Akademie presented interviews, speeches and debates live on stage with representatives from politics, media and international development organizations. Each interview touched on the subject of media development and was seven minutes long.

Among others, Klaus Rudischhauser, the Deputy Director General for Development and Cooperation at the European Commission, took part in a Q&A session about EU's new policy of promotion of media development while the head of the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe, Aldo Dell'Ariccia, reported on the media situation in Zimbabwe. In addition, Belinda Calaguas from ActionAid International and journalist Olivia Rutazibwa looked at how the media covers controversial development topics such as biofuel.

Organized by the European Commission, the European Development Days is Europe's premier forum on international affairs and development cooperation. This year, the international conference focused on food security, inclusive growth and engaging the private sector for development.

DW Akademie interviews and debates held at the conference are available on our homepage, as well as over Vimeo and Facebook.
