Journalist, Co-Editor of Zenith, a German-Language Magazine on Eastern Topics
Daniel Gerlach is a journalist and the co-editor of zenith, a German-language magazine on Eastern topics. He was born in Wuppertal, Germany, in 1977 and majored in history and Islamic studies at the Universities of Hamburg and Paris-Sorbonne. He focused on politics and the contemporary history of the Middle East and the Islamic world. He also wrote a monograph on Germany’s Middle East policy during the Cold War. Gerlach lives in Berlin. Aside from his activities for zenith magazine and its online publication he works freelance for the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and is the author of many television documentaries. One of his more recent productions is a three-part series on the history of Islam for the German public broadcaster ZDF. Gerlach is a co-founder and the editor-in-chief of German publishing house Levante. Its publications include zenith magazine, zenith BusinessReport and a new business magazine focusing on Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia.
