Chairperson of the EU Commission’s Group of Experts to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings, Brussels

Bärbel Heide Uhl is a political scientist and advisor for anti-trafficking policies both for non-governmental and governmental institutions in Europe. She is currently the chairperson of the EU Commission’s Group of Experts to combat trafficking in human beings in Brussels. She is co-founder of the La Strada NGO network and worked as the director of La Strada Czech Republic. She served as anti-trafficking advisor in the OSCE Mission to the Federal Yugoslav Republic, Belgrade and in the OSCE Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) in Warsaw. Within the framework of EU enlargement programs, she advised governments and NGOs on adopting anti-trafficking policies in Turkey, Croatia and Romania. Uhl conducted short-term consultations in many countries, including Armenia, Israel, Moldova, Serbia, Bulgaria and Kosovo. She earned her university degree from the Free University in Berlin (political science) after completing studies in political science and history at the Universities in Bonn (Germany), Vienna (Austria) and the Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic).
