Hesselmann, Dr. Hans

President of the European Coalition of Cities against Racism (ECCAR)

Dr. Hans Hesselmann studied English, History and Legal Sciences at Munich University. He then worked as secondary school teacher in Bavaria. Since 1984 he has a PhD in History. In 1995, he co-organised the first presentation of the Nuremberg International Human Rights Award. From 1996 until his retirement on January 1, 2010, he was head of the City of Nuremberg's Human Rights Office. Since November 2007, he has been President of the European Coalition of Cities Against Racism. On December 10, 2009, he was awarded with the Human Rights Prize of the City of Graz for his contributions to the promotion of local human rights work in Europe.
