Mkutano wa Umoja wa Ulaya na mataifa ya mashariki waaza
28 Novemba 2013Wakikabiliwa na mbinyo kutoka Urusi , viongozi wa Ukraine wiki iliyopita waliweka kando mipango ya kujiunga na Umoja wa Ulaya, hali iliyozusha maandamano makubwa ya umma nchini humo na kurejesha nyuma mipango ya Umoja wa Ulaya kulinyofoa taifa hilo lenye wakaazi milioni 46 kutoka himaya ya Urusi. Urusi inapendelea Ukraine ijiunge na umoja tofauti ambao una lengo la kushindana na Umoja wa Ulaya.
Utanuzi kuelekea mashariki
Makubaliano ya ushirika na Ukraine, kwa minajili ya kuwa na mahusiano ya karibu ya kibiashara, na Umoja wa Ulaya yalikuwa ni tukio la kutia saini baada ya mkutano huo wa siku mbili nchini Lithuania ambayo ni jamhuri ya zamani ya iliyokuwa Umoja wa Kisovieti, nchi ambayo hivi sasa ni mwanachama wa Umoja wa Ulaya, na ni ishara ya wazi kuwa Umoja huo unapanua ushawishi wake kwa njia ya kijiografia kuelekea zaidi upande wa mashariki, hadi katika mpaka na Urusi.
Badala yake kuanzisha rasmi mazungumzo ya makubaliano na jamhuri nyingine mbili za zamani za Umoja wa Kisovieti , mataifa ya Georgea na Moldova , yakiwa na wakaazi wapatao milioni 4.5 na 3.6, yatakuwa ni vivutio mbadala katika mkutano huo.
Pat Cox , rais wa zamani wa bunge la Umoja wa Ulaya ambaye hivi sasa anaongoza ujumbe wa uangalizi wa Umoja huo nchini Ukraine, amesema kuwa , "Ukraine , kama taifa huru, ina haki ya kusema 'ndio,' ' hapana' ama 'huenda' na kwa sasa inaonekana kuwa ni 'huenda'.
"Kuwapo kwangu hapa kuna maana kuwa tunaendelea kufanyakazi kwa pamoja, tuko tayari kukutana na kutafuta suluhisho," amesema Arbuzov , mshirika mkubwa wa rais wa Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.
Rais Yanukovich anatarajiwa kukutana na maafisa wa ngazi ya juu wa Umoja wa Ulaya leo muda mfupi kabla ya kuanza kwa mkutano huo mjini Vilnius, ambako uhusiano kati ya pande hizo mbili uko mashakani. Halmashauri ya Umoja imesema kuwa rais wake , Jose Manuel Barroso atahudhuria mkutano huo pamoja na rais wa baraza la Ulaya Herman Van Rompuy, ambaye ndie atakuwa mwenyekiti wa mkutano huo.
