Folclor
En cada ceremonia de inauguración de los Juegos Olímpicos, el país anfitrión presenta su historia y sus tradiciones. En la apertura de los primeros Juegos Mundiales de los Pueblos Indígenas, en el estado brasileño de Tocantins, todos los participantes desfilaron con sus trajes y atuendos típicos, que también usarán en las competencias.
Carrera de canoa
Desde luego, las carreras de canoa y otros tipos de deporte acuático son disciplinas olímpicas. En la variante indígena, el equipo deportivo simplemente no está tan desarrollado tecnológicamente como en los Juegos Olímpicos oficiales.
El tira y afloja
En 1920, el tira y afloja fue por última vez disciplina oficial en los Juegos Olímpicos en Amberes. En aquel entonces, el equipo de Reino Unido ganó la medalla de oro tras vencer a Irlanda del Norte. Este año, el equipo brasileño de los Kurá Bakairí tiene buenas posibilidades de ganar.
Tiro con arco
También en los Juegos Mundiales de los Pueblos Indígenas en Palma, la capital de Tocantins, se realizan competencias de tiro con arco. No obstante, en esta versión, el blanco tiene forma de pez.
Tiro con cerbatana
Carreras, lanzamiento de jabalina y natación: estas son disciplinas que conocemos de los Juegos Olímpicos. El tiro con cerbatana, en cambio, es una disciplina un poco más exótica.
Xikunahati
El juego de pelota de cabeza o xikunahati se practica en un campo del tamaño aproximado de una cancha de fútbol. La meta es lanzar la pelota al campo contrario, usando solo la cabeza. La pelota está hecha a mano, a base de hule natural.
Carrera de tronco
En los Juegos de Highland, en Escocia, se avientan troncos. Aquí, en cambio, los troncos de palmera de buriti se cargan sobre los hombros, ya sea en equipo o individualmente. Los atletas corren aproximadamente ocho kilómetros.
Mensajes políticos
A diferencia de los eventos del Comité Olímpico Internacional, en los Juegos Mundiales de los Pueblos Indígenas no está prohibido enviar mensajes políticos. Esta señora protesta contra una reforma constitucional, que restringiría los derechos de los pueblos indígenas en Brasil.
