Reflexiones de Andreas Gursky sobre el mundo
Las fotografías del artista alemán Andreas Gursky se cuentan entre las más caras que existen. Una exposición actual muestra instantáneas procesadas digitalmente, una reflexión artística sobre el estado de nuestro mundo.
Foto de grupo con la canciller
No es una foto histórica: Gursky monta digitalmente las imágenes de los cuatro sucesivos jefes de la Cancillería alemana frente a un cuadro de Barnett Newman. La obra, titulada "retrospectiva", es de 2011: la actual canciller, Angela Merkel, justo al lado del "canciller de la unidad", Helmut Kohl, Gerhard Schröder y, justo a su izquierda, reconocible por el humo de su cigarrillo, Helmut Schmidt .
Ayuda, por favor, soy una estrella
Gursky es un artista bastante reservado, reacio a hablar de su trabajo. En la conferencia de prensa de su actual exposición, estuvo muy solicitado por periodistas que buscaban una entrevista. En la muestra expone 34 obras de gran formato que abarcan casi tres décadas de intensivo trabajo de estudio sobre la situación mundial. Solo hay una pequeña imagen analógica de pequeño formato (54x43 cm).
El Aeropuerto de Fráncfort
La obra "Frankfurt", de casi cinco metros de ancho, es de 2007 pero tiene una temática sorprendentemente actual, como explicó el comisario de la exposición, Udo Kittelmann: "Se aprecia que la gente de la imagen no viene de Europa occidental, sino de regiones árabes". Aunque el artista no pretendía sin embargo que esta obra fuera entendida como una referencia al actual debate sobre los refugiados.
La estética del consumismo
Ya sea la leve iluminación en rosa y verde menta de las nuevas tiendas de Prada o la escultórica presentación de las deportivas de Nike, a Andreas Gursky le gusta reducir los iconos de la sociedad de consumo a su estructura. La belleza estética de sus fotografías supone también una sutil crítica social. El título de una de sus obras más recientes (de 2014) es, simplemente, "Lager" ('almacén').
Las reliquias de un mundo laboral extinguido
Sólo en contadas ocasiones Gursky incluye gente en sus imágenes. Y, cuando lo hace, suele ser de fondo. Las personas están ausentes sin llegar a estarlo. El entorno de los mineros en "Hamm, Bergwerk Ost" ('ciudad de Hamm, cantera este') plantea, para el artista de Düsseldorf, el cambio estructural en el capitalismo: los monos de trabajo son reliquias de una hace tiempo desaparecida era industrial.
Catedrales del arte
Ocho metros cuadrados de arte que fueron titulados por Grusky "Kathedrale" (2007). La gente se empequeñece ante el monumental telón de fondo de las vidrieras. Aquí está rodando Wim Wenders y Gursky le acompaña como fotógrafo. La toma está dominada por una estética estrictamente formalista y, sin embargo, extrañamente vacía. Las columnas de esta iglesia de Düsseldorf han sido borradas digitalmente.
Bloques de viviendas
Las obras monumentales, de formato extremadamente grande, son la seña de identidad de Gursky. El artista ha fotografiado guetos sociales y bloques de viviendas anónimos de los cinco continentes. Aquí uno de sus famosos 'C-prints' (el papel fotográfico más grande de Kodak): "Paris Montparnasse" (1993). Son dos imágenes juntadas digitalmente. Sólo de cerca se aprecia la presencia de personas.
Cualidades pictóricas
De Asia tiene Gursky diversos bodegones fotográficos, como este "Bangkok VI" (2011). Durante muchos años viajó por el mundo para buscar enfoques diferentes y retratar la sociedad con su cámara. Para retrabajar digitalmente las imágenes se toma meses o incluso años. Y consigue fotografías que parecen a primera vista una pintura.
Andares de supermodelo
Panorámica sobre el mundo de la alta costura. La moda es también un negocio, una industria, para Gursky. Las maniquíes sirven únicamente para presentar la mercancía, como simples perchas, intercambiables, salvo en el caso de unas pocas supermodelos. Lo que le interesa en la obra "V&R" (2011) es la uniformización estética: las expresiones faciales, el paso, el maquillaje… todo se alinea.
El artista y su comisario
Con Udo Kittelmann, el director de la Galería Nacional de Berlín, Gursky (izq.) colaboró para una exposición por vez primera en 2007. En la actual muestra en el Museo Frieder Burda, Kittelmann muestra a un Gursky políticamente subversivo, en una retrospectiva de casi tres décadas del arte de este fotógrafo de Düsseldorf. La muestra se exhibe hasta el 01/24/2016 en Baden-Baden.
