Yağmur ormanları SOS veriyor
Yağmur ormanları tehlike altında. Sanatçı Ernest Zacharevic, palmiye yağı elde edilen eski bir arazide yaptığı devasa peyzaj heykeliyle, tüm dünyanın dikkatini Endonezya’daki yağmur ormanlarına çekmek istiyor.
Doğanın yardım çığlığı
Doğanın SOS çağrısı ancak havadan görülebiliyor. Adeta doğa yardım çağırıyormuş gibi görünüyor. Bu çağrı, Sumatra’nın yağmur ormanlarını ve orangutanlar dahil orada yaşayan hayvanları kurtarmak adına tüm dünyaya yapılıyor. Geçim kaynaklarından olan palmiye yağı ekonomisi ve ağaçların arazi açmak için kesilmesi nedeniyle yağmur ormanları büyük ölçüde tehlike altında.
Yirmi dönümlük peyzaj sanatı
Bu peyzaj sanatının yapımı bir hafta sürdü. Fikir, ünlü Litvanyalı grafiti sanatçısı Ernest Zacharevic’e ait. Uygulama, İngiltere merkezli koruma kuruluşu Sumatran Orangutan Society (SOS) tarafından desteklendi.
Testereli yağmur ormanı korucuları
Projeye, İngiliz kozmetik firması Lush da destek verdi. SOS ile birlikkte 50 hektarlık alanın satın alınması için para yatırdı. Bu bölgenin tamamına yağmur ormanları ağaçları dikilecek ve Leuser Ulusal Parkı’na dahil edilecek. Geçici SOS heykeli için bin 100 yağ palmiyesi ağacı kesildi.
Yerli halktan destek
Zachareviç, projesini uygulamaya koyarken yerel halkın da desteğini aldı. Yakında araziyi yenilemek için buraya on binlerce fidan dikecekler. Diğerlerinin yanı sıra orangutanların da bölgeye tekrar yerleşmesini hedefliyorlar. Kesilen yağ palmiyeleri de doğal gübre olarak katkı sağlayacak.
Eleştirel tüketici palmiye yağı istemiyor
Yağmur ormanlarını korumak için yapılan SOS çağrısının öncelikli hedefi palmiye yağına veda edilmesini sağlamak. Öte yandan palmiye yağını sürdürülebilir kaynaklardan elde edebilmek için tüketim ürünleri şirketleri üzerindeki kamuoyu baskısını artırmak da hedefler arasında yer alıyor.
Küresel şirketler palmiye yağı konusunda farklı görüşte
Unilever, Nestle, Procter&Gamble gibi çok uluslu şirketler, şeffaflığı övüyor ve kendi ürünlerindeki palmiye yağının kaynağını açıklamak istiyor. Greenpeace’e göre aralarında Pepsico, Ferrero ya da Kellogg’s’un da olduğu şirketler (şimdilik) bunu yapmak istemiyor.
Nesli tükenmekte olan hayvanlar için acil durum
Gittikçe genişleyen yağ palmiyesi alanları, oralarda yaşayan hayvanların yaşam alanlarını sürekli azaltıyor. Sumatra’da, sadece 14 bin 600 orangutanın yaşadığı tahmin ediliyor. Gunung Leuser doğa koruma alanı, bu maymunların yanı sıra filler, gergedanlar ve kaplanların yer aldığı 9 bin kilometre karelik tek alan.
