Sky High: China's new glass-bottomed bridge

430 meters long, six meters wide, and up to 300 meters above a canyon – the bridge in China's Zhangjiajie Mountains provides the ultimate adrenalin rush to tourists with a head for heights.

World's highest glass-bottomed bridge opens in China

The bridge spans the canyon between two mountain cliffs in Zhangjiajie park in China's central Hunan province. Six metres wide and made of some 99 panels of clear glass, it can carry up to 800 people at the same time.

Tourists will have to book their tickets a day in advance, at a cost of 138 yuan ($20). Only people wearing stilettos or using selfie-sticks will be banned for security reasons.

The bridge was designed by Israeli architect Haim Dotan. Authorities in Zhangjiajie were eager to demonstrate the safety of the structure.Everything from driving cars over it to allowing journalists to take whacks at the glass with sledge hammers.
