Muslims represent one of the largest immigrant groups in Europe, many of them coming from former colonies in Asia and northern Africa, others moving from places like Turkey to take up jobs in countries that were working rapidly to rebuild their economies and infrastructure following World War Two. And as well as places to live and work, they also need places to worship. While Christians are well-used to prestigious churches and cathedrals that express the value they place on their faith, they often have difficulty accepting that Muslims should want to make the same statement with their places of worship.
