Green Week kicks off in Berlin - Germany aims to boost electric vehicle sales - South African economy struggles
German farmers have some good news to report as International Green Week kicks off in Berlin. Exports of German agricultural produce and farm machinery reached a new peak last year despite a challenging environment.
Around 33,000 people and 100 tractors took part in the march through the capital. Protesters' demands included banning a controversial weed killer and redirecting European subsidies to ethical farmers.
Monsanto's takeover by Bayer could create a GMO juggernaut too powerful for Europe to resist, while conveniently "disappearing" a tarnished brand, critics say. Concerns abound over concentration in the seed market.
