Nigeria's Goodluck Jonathan has been declared winner of presidential elections in a landmark vote that exposed regional tensions and led to deadly rioting in the mainly Muslim north. Jonathan, the incumbent and first president from the southern oil-producing Niger Delta region, won 57 percent of the vote in Africa's most populous nation, easily beating his northern rival, ex-military ruler Muhammadu Buhari. Five explosions at a bus park in northern Nigeria's main city of Kano killed at least 25 people on Monday, a Reuters witness said, in an area where Islamist sect Boko Haram is waging an insurgency against the government. The coordinated bombing came as an audio tape emerged of a man saying he was the father of a family of seven French tourists kidnapped by Boko Haram militants. Three people have died in bomb blasts by the radical Islamist group Boko Haram in northern Nigeria, police said 07 February. Police told the German news agengy dpa that the owner of a pharmacy in the northeastern city of Maiduguri, and two of his employees, were killed when bombs went off. In the city of Kano, two police stations where Boko Haram members were being detained were also targeted. Police said there were no deaths. Boko Haram claimed responsibility for both attacks, which occurred as residents were observing Eid-el-Mulud, the Muslim festival marking the birth of the Prophet Mohammed. In the nearby town of Kaduna a man in military uniform was reported to have blew himself up outside an army barracks.
