First ‘test tube baby’ turns 40

Four decades ago, the world’s first so-called ‘test-tube baby’ was born. The event prompted a huge debate about the ethics of IVF. German scientist Tatjana Kniewald was among the pioneers of what is now a widespread treatment in reproductive medicine.
