Kalpona Akter is a well-known figure in Bangladesh. She began working in garment factories at the age of 12, and since 2000 she has devoted herself full time to trade unions and activism. Today, she is managing director of the Bangladesh Center for Workers Solidarity, which works for employment rights in the apparel industry. In 2016, she was honored for her work by Human Rights Watch.
