This is the first big winter storm to batter the US Northeast. And the monster storm has also hit the Midwest. Taking into account the windchill factor, temperatures have been as low as -50F in some areas.
Sub-freezing weather in the US is reported to have caused several deaths, with another icy blast set to hit the northeast of the country. Many cities have experienced record low temperatures over the past few days.
At least five people have been killed by a powerful nor'easter that slammed into the US East Coast and Midwest, bringing snow, rain and hurricane-force winds. A flight into Dulles Airport also faced a rough landing.
