The United States and Japan rank top of the list when it comes to ultra high-net-worth individuals. China, Germany and France can be found further down the list.
The number of Germany's dollar millionaires rose by 100,000 in 2019, according to the World Wealth Report. The US had the biggest upturn, although the coronavirus crisis could change the upward trend.
The atomic bomb dropped by the US over Nagasaki killed tens of thousands of people in an instant. During a ceremony marking the bombing's anniversary, the city's mayor called for a global ban on nuclear weapons.
Foreign Minister Heiko Maas made the plea on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima. "The world must not forget what happened," he said, urging nuclear powers to abide by existing treaties.
The annual peace ceremony has been scaled back this year because of the coronavirus. In Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's presence, Hiroshima's mayor called on world leaders to commit more seriously to nuclear disarmament.
