What Can Be Done to Curb Global Warming?

The earth's glaciers may disappear within 30 years, according to climate expert Roland Psenner, and while climate change has been on world leaders' minds, DW-WORLD.DE readers have also been thinking about the issue.

Due to an increase of temperature in our world, some nations agreed on the Kyoto protocol. Other did not agree. The United States of America must change its attitude and agree to the Kyoto protocol. By reducing green house gases, our globe will be safe. - Calist B.Tesha, Tanga, Tanzania

Mountain ranges like Himalayas and Alps should be declared world peace parks and global heritage sites, totally stopping all development work and industrialization. Any tampering with these fragile mountainscapes will speed up the melting of glaciers and ultimately affect the climate and sustenance of humanity. - Dr. Chander Mohan Seth, Forest officer in Jammu and Kashmir, India

Clearly, the greenhouse effect is exacerbating the situation. I think large industrialized nations, like the United States and the United Kingdom, should take the lead and lead by example. Additionally, developing countries such as China should all "think green." We as a global community need to cut emissions and use other forms of power, such as solar and wind power. We all need to cut back. By using mass transit and recycling more, we can make a difference. It is not too late to repair a great deal of the damage that we have done to our environment if we all get involved. - Carol Mallier

I believe the world should unite and make an agreement to stop factory work, car driving, and chemical production for a good five years and try to recover the world before it's too late -- just so the earth can slow down on global warming. The world is damaged enough and, instead of taking and taking, it's time for us to give back. Maybe we should ask ourselves: Do you want to see your loved ones die from global warming or would you rather see them grow old with you? - Annie Hu

Vote for mandatory caps on greenhouse gas emissions, naturally. Then continue to support and promote waste reduction and recycling as methods of energy and fuel conservation. Bike to work, walk to the store, buy everything possible online, buy recycled. Sort your trash and compost your food waste. Easy as pie. Tell your family, friends and neighbors to read and believe the reports, get off their butts and do something about it. - Paige Tate

One can think of using water absorbent polymers in nano form to slow down the melting of snow. - R.K. Gupta
