Tensions are running high in Tunisia following the funeral of murdered oppostion leader Chokri Belaid. Police fired tear gas at a crowd outside the cemetery where Belaid was laid to rest.
The high-profile arrests for abuse and corruption come as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed implements reforms. The attorney general also accused intelligence figures of an assassination attempt against the new prime minister.
A British academic who was in the United Arab Emirates to research the effects of the Arab Spring on the country has been charged with spying. Matthew Hedges has already been in custody for several months.
A Pakistani minister, Shahbaz Bhatti, was assassinated in 2011 for supporting Asia Bibi, a Christian accused of blasphemy. Bhatti's brother told DW that he is concerned about the safety of Christians in Pakistan.
"Here are brewing economically and politically dark times," Einstein wrote to his sister in 1922, describing his fears for Jews in Germany before the Nazis took power. The letter fetched thousands at an Israeli auction.
