Transylvania in the snow

November 28, 2016

Transylvania is known for its dark forests, lonely valleys and the myth of Dracula, the blood-sucking figure on whom Irish author Bram Stoker based his famous novel. But is this what the heart of Romania is really like?

Transylvania is home to dark forests and rugged mountains. Here groups of priests organize sled races. They take to the snow-covered terrain with their dogs in a bid to get closer to God. Bran is where you’ll find Dracula’s castle. This was the home of the historic figure on whom Irish author Bram Stoker based his famous novel. Count Vlad Tepes was a cruel despot who had several thousands of his enemies impaled. Transylvania is a great place for such blood-curdling tales, which maybe why Prince Charles regularly comes here on vacation.
