Severe tropical storm Trami triggers landslides and disrupts communications in Taiwan. The relief effort is underway in the Philippines after Trami caused flooding there.
Over two dozen people have died and widespread damage reported as the monster Typhoon Mangkhut crashed into the northern Philippines coast and Taiwan. The storm is also expected to hit Hong Kong and southern China.
Hong Kong and Macau are battening down the hatches as the super typhoon hits southern China. Mangkhut left at least 64 people dead in the Philippines, as it smashed property, tore down power lines, and caused landslides.
Despite a tumultuous political relationship, China and Taiwan have always maintained a steady exchange of tourism. But a recent decline in Chinese tourists to Taiwan has highlighted just how vital this exchange is.
Scorching sun, mud-coated roads, damaged transportation networks and a lack of drinking water are posing a challenge for relief work. The worst weather disaster in Japan in decades has claimed over 150 lives.
