Thai police have arrested a woman they believe to be the mastermind behind a scam that saw more than 1000 people stranded at Bangkok airport after learning that the flight they’d booked didn’t exist.
Ten people died and hundreds were injured as Japan was hit by one of the strongest typhoons in 25 years. More than 3,000 people were stranded at Kansai International Airport and no one knows when it will open again.
As details emerge of how a woman managed to slip past security, estimates are coming in for the financial damage. The airport director says the weekend of chaos could cost €1 million.
Officials have not reduced the warning level and a 4-kilometer danger zone remains in place around the crater. But the tens of thousands of travelers left stranded are able to leave the island.
