On Nov. 2, US voters decided to keep US President George W. Bush in office for another four years rather than handing the White House to his Democratic challenger, John Kerry.

The race to lead the world's most powerful nation was closely watched in Europe and Germany in particular. While a majority of Germans had hoped to see Kerry take over, it was George W. Bush who won the day. Now it remains to be seen whether, and how, Berlin and Washington can work together when faced with the tough issues -- diplomatic, economic and environmental -- that affect Europe as well as the United States.
