The Gerebeg Maulud ceremony

This is the Gerebeg Maulud ceremony, held to commemorate the birth of the Prophet Mohammad. The ceremony is a blend between Islamic and Javanese culture.

In this ceremony there is a view of "gunungan", the triangle shaped of vegetables and traditional food. People believe that if they can grab even a bit of the gunungan, they will be blessed. Before the gerebeg, the gunungan is spelled by the imam from keraton. This also makes people believe that the gunungan brings good luck for them.
