Thailand's King Maha Vajiralongkorn has been formally crowned after inheriting the throne from his father, who died in 2016. King Vajiralongkorn now also takes the title Rama X, the 10th monarch of the nearly 240-year-old Chakri dynasty.

Rights groups have called on Thailand to explain the disappearance of three activists accused of insulting the monarchy. Separately, a man jailed under the country's lese-majeste laws has been freed in a royal pardon.
