German telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom has bought one of two licences being put for sale in Croatia for the operation of third-generation mobile phone networks, a spokesman for the Croatian telecoms regulator was quoted as saying in a newspaper reported Wednesday. The German giant, via its Croatian unit T-Mobile Hrvatska, paid $21 million (€7 million) for the so-called UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) licence, Financial Times Deutschland reported. The second licence, scheduled to run for 20 years, was bought by a unit of Telekom Austria, the other main mobile phone operator in Croatia alongside Deutsche Telekom. (AFP)
